Animal Welfare Policy Salt Spring Abattoir
The health and welfare of the animals in our care is of upmost importance to us. We at the Salt Spring Abattoir are committed to providing optimal welfare to the animals in our care. We do this by providing them with:
- Shelter to protect them from the elements;
- Facilities that are safe and conducive to animal movement;
- Water and feed as needed and required;
- Immediate attention if they become injured or ill;
- Humane end of life at slaughter.
Salt Spring Abattoir Animal Welfare Policy For Clients
We at the Salt Spring Abattoir have a high expectation of animal care for animals delivered to our facility. We expect that animals will be:
- Transported in a humane manner and in compliance with all regulations;
- Healthy, sound and free of disease;
- Handled in a humane manner, including no striking, kicking or abusive use of handling tools;
Salt Spring Abattoir Employee Animal Welfare Policy

We at the Salt Spring Abattoir also have zero tolerance for animal neglect and abuse.
If anyone is observed abusing or neglecting animals, including those delivering animals to the facility, they will be immediately disciplined, and may result in suspension from the facility and/or possible referral to the authorities.
